Hey gang.  I hope y'all can find the discussion.

It might be 3 weeks before we see any real news in this case.  That's going to feel like an eternity.  How about trying to try this contest (or at least elucidate the issues as fully as we can manage) by "crowdsourcing" right here?

"Sue do nym" is DEFINITELY invited, as are any who can make this case for Coleman.

Ad hominem is out.  Well, let's TRY to keep ad hominem out.  It's the sign of a weak argument.

So let's be Knaak for a bit.  What does he have?  What are his issues?  (Remember, we're Knack, not Elias.)

- Duplicate ballots: what evidence is there for this?  Do we have access to comparative counts (the record of how many ballots cast, and how many were counted)?

- The "missing envelope" ballots.  Is there any precedent for getting these excluded?

- The uncounted rejected absentees.  How many are there?  How can we argue to get them accepted?

For reference, here's Nate Silver's anti-Coleman arguments:

and here's the link to all of the relevant legal stuff, including the Coleman contest:

Love the idea!  I think we can all get the Knaak of it quickly!

Anyone do any "Mock Trial" back in the day?  Ralph, want to help moderate this discussion?

very cool!

Sure, I'll moderate, but I Am Not A Lawyer.  If a real lawyer appears (one who HAS done mock trials and such), I will step aside quickly!

One issue I have with theUptake is - I think it might be hard for the community to FIND this discussion without some pointers.  Is this the best place for the discussion?  How will everyone that was on the blog yesterday find us here?

On the reading list - Knaak's filing.

I see two easy ways to do this:
1) Create it as a discussion on The UpTake and promote the summary to
the front page.
or
2) Do it as a cover it live blog

I'm leaning towards #2 since our audience understands that tool and we
can embed it on many websites of all political stripes.
We can archive it as a web page (or pages) on our website at the end
or as we go along.

We could do both, and this is an excellent opportunity to use some of
the powerful features of the website which we have yet to fully explore

Well, if your site has secret, unexplored powers, then cool - use them!  I agree w/ Mike's #2, though, for his reasons AND because the existing community will know how and where to find it.  It's tough for a newbie like myself to find things back here in the discussions area.

And hey, it LOOKS like front page stories can have comments, but I can't figure out how to add one.

BTW, I'm signed up on the NewsMax list, so I get all these wonderful rightwing talking points (and funding appeals).  Got some great rightwing info today, which will jump-start this project.  I'll post it later on this evening.

We could do both, and this is an excellent opportunity to use some of
the powerful features of the website which we have yet to fully explore
